Five Estuaries launch Stage 2 public consultation

Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm, the proposed extension project of the existing Galloper Offshore Wind Farm, has today launched a second stage of consultation to present their development proposals. This consultation runs for just over 8 weeks closing at 11:59pm on Friday 12 May 2023.

With the potential to power hundreds of thousands of homes, the Project supports the UK Government’s target for up to 50 gigawatts (GW) of electricity generated from offshore wind by 2030 and helps to meet the objectives of the UK Energy Security Strategy.

During the consultation, the Project is holding drop-in public information events in Tendring Essex where the onshore infrastructure would be located, and in Suffolk and Kent where the new wind farm may be visible from. There will also be online webinars, one focused on onshore elements and one focused on offshore. Five Estuaries invites the local community to attend the events which provide an opportunity to find out more about the proposed development and to speak to the Project team, who will be on hand to answer questions.

In addition to the proposals, the Project is consulting on its Preliminary Environmental Information Report (PEIR). The PEIR sets out the current environmental baseline, and based on initial assessments, the Project’s potential benefits and impacts, and proposed approaches to removing or reducing any impacts identified.

Information on the consultation events, the proposals and associated documentation is available to view here. Selected documents have also been made available at various public venues for viewing. Details of these can be found here.

Feedback on the published documents is important and will help to shape final proposals. Feedback can be provided on our online feedback form, by email or in writing to FREEPOST FIVE ESTUARIES (no stamp or further address is required).

Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm is still in its development stage, and it is anticipated that an application will be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate towards the end of 2023. If approved, construction would then commence in 2027 and the project would become operational around 2030.
