Project Manager’s Update February 2023

I am pleased to announce that on 14 March we will be launching the Five Estuaries Stage 2 Consultation. During the consultation the Project will provide various opportunities for you to find out more and to provide your feedback on our proposals.

This statutory stage of consultation will last for just over 8 weeks, closing on 12 May 2023. Our Preliminary Environmental Information Report (PEIR) is the first main, detailed output of the Environmental Impact Assessment process and will be the focus of this consultation. It sets out the potential environmental impacts of the project, both negative and positive, based on our initial assessments. The PEIR also proposes mitigation measures to prevent or minimise any negative impacts identified.

During the consultation we will be holding a number of public drop-in events across Tendring, Essex, the Suffolk coast and one in Margate, Kent. We will also be holding two webinars, one focused on onshore elements of the Project and one focused on offshore. We invite you to attend in person, or virtually, to view our proposals and speak to the team to find out more about the Project. Feedback on our plans and specific consideration based on local knowledge is important to us and supports the refinement of our proposals before we submit our DCO application, expected to be at the end of 2023.

Earlier this month we published our Statement of Community Consultation (SoCC). The SoCC explains how we intend to consult with the local community on our proposals for the Project during this statutory stage of consultation, as required by Section 47 of the Planning Act 2008.

Hard copies of the SoCC have been made available to view at various locations across Essex and Suffolk. Click here to view these locations.

Full details of the consultation, the consultation documents and how you can provide your feedback will be available from 14 March. We will provide an update with more information then and hope to see you at one of our public information events.

Onshore Surveys

In March we plan to commence some ground investigation surveys in selected locations along the onshore cable route as agreed with the relevant landowners. This is to further our understanding of ground conditions and inform ongoing engineering design.

Land Information Questionnaires

Land Information Questionnaires (LIQs) have been distributed by our land agents Dalcour Maclaren. The LIQs will help to identify people who may have an interest in land associated with the project. If you have received a LIQ, we encourage you to complete and return this as soon as possible, to help us make sure we communicate with the right people with an interest in land relevant to our proposals.

If you have any questions about the LIQ, the Dalcour Maclaren team can be contacted on 01869 352 725 or ve-nf@dalcourmaclaren.com
